Its that time again my friends. What time you ask?
Response TIME!
Todays topic. “Does team Back pack get to define Hip Hop and Emcee’ing?” before anyone gets there underpants in a bunch remember these are words on a screen and nothing bad has happened to you, your just reading shit on a screen. AHEM.
In a episode of Mic Check “link below” we are told that Mumble Rappers are NOT Hip Hop Artists and do not deserve to be in the Genre at all and even more so they are actively hurting the culture by releasing music under the banner of Hip Hop.
To me this begs the question, Does Team Back Pack get to define Hip Hop and Emcee’ing? The straight forward answer is yes, They do. But so does the likes of LIL Yahty, and me and YOU.
Reality “Mic” Check. Mirrors are important. At the same time you see “Mumble rappers are hurting the culture” or “‘Don’t write evil things in your music and promote negativity” You see on the same youtube channels interviews with some of the industries most misogynistic, racist and homophobic battle rapper, giving them platforms to grow there brand on the basis of there “Bars”.
Im not saying they should not be on TBP, nor am I saying TBP is wrong about Mumble Rappers Like the Little Boat, I agree about there judgement of the “Quality” of the music. Im just not certain why the bias exists.
I would choose a ignorant well intentioned young artist with a chip on his shoulder over a seasoned established and developed artist who demeans others... wouldn't you TBP? Wouldn't we all?
It seems in this case that the Quest to “Make Hip Hop Great again” by raising the bar “HAHA IM PUNY!” we forget that it has always had the LIL Boats of the world and It has lived NO thrived due in part to the creative drive of those who do what has not been done before both to the good and the bad.
Let it be said TBP is DOPE what they do is needed and wanted I am a FAN. But if you can look at the rapper who use’s bigots words and frame it in your mind that it is ok to promote them because there is a nuance to art maybe where you don’t have to take them literally, then why not the same for the mumble rapper?
How do you take the passion a lil Y has for music and then show him your concepts ideas and our shared history in Hip Hop? Im not sure this view is how you start that dialogue.
I just would say it is a shade of hyperbole and a dash of hypocrisy to Defend the Culture from a EVIL!!!! guy who makes party music badly, while featuring some member of our culture who actually hurt others by perpetuation the society that feels it is ok to judge them.
Hip Hop is at its best when it is not defending it self from it self, But when it is lifting up the downtrodden and forgotten.
What do you think?
Do you think TBP is on point here? Did ai miss out on something? Need to educate me?
Do you agree? is there a place for Mumble rappers in hip hop or do they all need to GO?
Remember folks this is for discussion. not hate. any negative shit will get bounced off this thread no Shade to TBP, at all just one dudes thoughts.
