Hey everybody, it's your boy Brutha Smith.
Today I would like to talk about the Juggalo march. For those of you that are not aware the Juggalo March is an event being hosted by the insane clown posse that is happening September 16th 2017 in Washington.
In 2011 the FBI released a report stating that some Juggalo’s mostly transient and homeless groups of Juggalo’s involve themselves in gang like activities, you can download and read the full report for yourself by following this link NatioNal GaNG threat assessmeNt - FBI, this report then started a wave of local law-enforcement labeling every day regular Juggalo’s as if they were gang members. I myself was pulled over multiple times during that year by police simply for having stickers on my car, I was personally questioned and harassed for my clothing and my tattoos.
Over the last six years many Juggalo's from the local level like myself, all the way up to the very top like ICP have spoken out for the Juggalo's and against discrimination some of them have experienced. ICP has been vocal about how this has affected them and our culture and they have not let this fight go. And that brings us to.....
The Juggalo march on Washington!!!!! ‘Drums loud thunder!’
www.juggalomarch.com/
The website link above lists what will be happening, Hotels you can find to stay in and some general rules at Juggalo should follow, like to not treat this as if it was a party or a gathering Or a show, in other words don't act like rowdy Juggalo's like we like to.
I have my own reservations about Juggalo’s ability to maintain a sense of the calmness and political Will that will be needed during this March, but I hope that I am wrong, because there are people who are truly being hurt buy law-enforcement erroneous and in My personal opinion frankly criminal attack on a music subculture.
The website above uses terms like war and fight which I think paint the wrong attitude in the subconscious of the person attending the March, maybe words like movement, struggle, rising up these words might paint the necessary backdrop for the days activities and hopefully the desired outcome of them that being to ensure the positive view of the Juggalo name.
If done correctly this can achieve its goal. Just imagine thousands of Juggalo’s marching peacefully in paint dressed up smiling singing laughing not committing any crimes, and now imagine that being broadcast on network TV news reporter reporting on the videos being taken pictures being taken.
ICP has publicly invited many artists to perform add a thank you concert that is also part of this March, and have decided to publicly list those that declined to participate...... I think this is a bad move as it seems like an attempt at shaming people into going along with what ICP wants, if your movement is righteous and your argument is logical people will come. Already one artist declined “ESHAM” you can see his letters here, www.facebook.com/ReelLifeGo... you can already start to see backlash comments from Juggalo fans to his very very very polite and civil declining of the invitation.
In the end I personally feel like this will be a watershed moment for this phase of the Juggalo subculture, if done correctly it will repair decades of negative opinions about Juggalo’s if done incorrectly will only solidify what people think of us and will bring more people into the folded se us in a negative light.
I personally have been down with the clowns since 1994, I even honeymooned in Detroit and went to see ICP and Twiztid. This means a lot to me. It also scares me a lot, not personally but for Juggalo’s in general.
Will you be attending?
Do you think Juggalo’s will behave themselves in a way that will reflect the desired result of this March?
Do you have a story of harassment you like to share?
If attending what will you be doing?
What have you done in the last six years to combat this stigma?
Would love to hear your thoughts! WHOOP WHOOP MCL
